A wonderful picture book to help kids understand the importance of being the real you by asking for questions, laughing wholeheartedly, voicing your opinions and feelings, working hard, and speaking up for others who may have lost their voice. What I love about this book is the message that being you (purple) has nothing to do with looks, but rather what’s inside you.

A beautiful picture book full of gentle reminders as we move forward in the world. Important reminders for all of us.

I have read many books about the civil rights movement but what I found most fascinating about this book was the how children made a big impact on the movement by protesting and being taken to jail instead of adults. I was stunned to read that almost 3000 kids went to jail (for many days) to help the movement. They filled up the jails to the point where no more people could be arrested, which allowed progress in Birmingham towards the rights of black people.

Beautiful pictures accompany this story of Tiger conquering her nightmares. Tiger has always had Monster there to protect her at night, however, one night Nightmare conquers Monster and gets to Tiger. It then becomes Tiger and Monster against Nightmare. I enjoyed this book, but what really was remarkable to me is how much kids LOVE this book.
