What an amazing book to show children, in particular black children, how important they are to the world and how much they matter.

At school Amy's teacher shows them dragons from fairytales, and then asks the students make their own. Amy makes one but it doesn't resemble those of the other students. When Amy gets home she tells her grandma about how her dragon wasn't like the others and grandma goes and finds a Chinese dragon costume in the attic, which gives Any an idea of what she needs to do the next day at school.

A picture book unlike any other I have read. A young boys wonders why his dad becomes so angry, yells at his mom and break things. He wonders if it's something he has said or done when his dad becomes like this. The young boy finds someone he trusts and tells them, and his dad begins to get help and the young boy is hopeful things will be better at home. Such an important message to children that they need to tell someone if they are in a situation like that.

Love the message that we are all smart in our own way and that makes us all amazing.

One of my favourite places to visit in the world is New York City and that was part of my attraction to this book. Armadillo has acquired his love of travel from his grandfather and he has his journal to help him on his adventures in NYC. Accompanied by exquisite illustrations of NYC, this book is sure to be a hit for any kid (or adult) who love NYC, or just a fantastic adventure.

This book will open your eyes and make you consider the actions and words that you use around the children in your life. Ibram Kendi has written many important books about racism, and I think that this one is a game-changer. Yes, it’s a picture book, but it’s for everyone who has an impact on the lives of kids. The first line of Kendi’s book, “Antiracist Baby is bred, not born.”, says is all.
