Couch Potato is all set. He has every tool and creation necessary to ensure he never has to leave the couch. Everything is readily available to allow him to be a true couch potato. One day the power goes out and he is forced to go outside with his dog. Suddenly he reminded what the outside world has to offer him and the beauty and experiences that he is missing. The big lesson here is that it’s important to be active and be part of the world, but also some rest is ok too.

She searches all around for money and comes to the conclusion she will need to earn money to get this bike. A kind neighbour agrees to let her do jobs for her and she works with her neighbour for a year. Finally when she has enough money saved up, she goes to the shop and the bike is gone. She is crushed but decides on something else she could spend her money one. The beautiful pictures in this wordless picture bring the story alive in a powerful way.

Another book that I am only now getting to read. What total perfection this book is, and one that I will be sure to add to my class library and to my first week of school read-alouds.

When we let assumptions and judgement get in the way, we miss opportunities to meet new and interesting people (in this book’s case, a ghoul). The ghoul is afraid of the people just as much and they are afraid of him and all he wants is acceptance. A lovely story about not judging someone by how they look.
