While the cover definitely makes it seem like a Christmas story, to me, it’s an all-season story about being misunderstood and wanting to be with your family. Donaldson is one of my favourite picture book authors because of the rhythm of her writing and clever story lines. This one doesn’t disappoint and is sure to be a favourite among Donaldson fans.

While summer stills seems so far away, this picture book should keep you hopeful for the coming days of summer, and one of summer's greatest joys- bare feet.

Celebrating the "here" that we are currently in, even when it changes all the time. This refugee story is one that will open kids' eyes to the journey so many make to a better life, and the experience of the their different "here"s as they travel to their new homes.

Such a lovely story about the universe (more specifically the sea) sending us a message and to embrace what it tells us. Sometimes beautiful blessings come in small packages.

A young girl is moved across the world to live with her aunt and uncle. She struggles to feel part of this new place and to fit in. One day her aunt shares an old story of a large group of Persians who had to escape their land and went to India. The king there, speaking a different language than the Persians, uses a full cup of milk to show that that have to room for them. The leader of Persians takes the glass and adds a spoonful of sugar to the glass to show that they will be a great addition to the people of India, and the king then sees the value of letting the Persians stay. After her aunt tells her this story she gives the young a packet of sugar to carry in her pocket to remind her that she too brings sweetness to the people in her new home.
