I learned a lot about trees in this fabulous picture book. It would be a fantastic addition to any classroom learning about trees, plants, or forests.

This joyous story shows that pink is in fact for everyone. Well . . . except for the people who don't like the colour pink. Fun and bright, this reminds us once again pink is for all.

Tyrus Wong arrived in America under the pretense of being someone of high status in China, because that was the only way he and his father were allowed to come America. He had a pile of papers describing who he was to be and had to memorize the details of his new life story, thus becoming a “paper son”. Wong became an artist and created beautiful pieces of art, including the background of the movie Bambi. While somewhat unknown, his artistry made an impact in the world of art over the decades that he he was an artist.

While this story is set a few hundred years ago, the young Pirate Queen shows great intelligence, strength and cunning. Young girls will learn about this historical woman who, despite being kidnapped at a young age, determined her own destiny. Girl power at its best.

I read this last night and decided to read it to my grade 7s today to see what they thought. A quick synopsis- Peanut loves themself and is happy. One day they decide they want to be a rhythmic gymnast and their family is in full support. This book portrays what it means to believe in yourself and to be loved for who you are.
Like me, my 7s really liked it, and found some great messages in this book, like it’s important to be yourself and believe in who you are. Not having read a picture book using the pronouns they and them for a character (instead of he/she) the 7s wondered if the use of these were to point out that labels aren’t necessary and that we should be able to true to ourselves without having to have a label. I had high hopes for what the conversation would be around this book and my 7s hit it out of the park.

Such a fun and silly book. The town is quite upset that Poe is blocking traffic and that he won't move. Many adults offer solutions to get him to move and they don't work. Then a young girls offers a solution that adults think too simple. Love the lesson that sometimes we just need to ask questions and listen to solve a problem.
