One of my favourite songs ever is Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" and I loved reading the backstory about this song in this beautiful picture book all about Joni. Hopefully this picture book, with its fabulous illustrations with introduce a new generation to this incredible artist.

I have no idea how I came upon this book, but what an amazing tool this is for teens. Filled with thoughtful activities to help teens become more aware of themselves and who they are as an individual, this book would be a great additions to schools and homes.

This is a story I knew vague details about, and I am so glad to now be more informed on the events of May 4, 1970. A powerful novel in verse that shares the events of that weekend from various perspectives. As I read this I thought of events happening in our world today, and how we must use our voices to speak loudly for what is right.

Tyrus Wong arrived in America under the pretense of being someone of high status in China, because that was the only way he and his father were allowed to come America. He had a pile of papers describing who he was to be and had to memorize the details of his new life story, thus becoming a “paper son”. Wong became an artist and created beautiful pieces of art, including the background of the movie Bambi. While somewhat unknown, his artistry made an impact in the world of art over the decades that he he was an artist.
