Book 3 of the Good Girl's Guide to Murder Series.

Addy's Cup of Sugar.png

A sinister and chilling tale of love and revenge where it is difficult not to feel the love and rage that pours from these pages. Readers' attention will be held by the intense plot line, and hopefully not distracted by the poetic prose this tale is written in. While the language is beautiful, younger teen readers may find this a difficult story to follow.

Love this book so much. Fun, twisty, and mysterious, this book keeps you guessing at every turn, and hanging on til the very last page. Avery is a teen facing the recent death of her mother, having no money, a sister in an abusive relationship and very little to look forward to. She is then shocked to learn that a billionaire, who she doesn’t know, has left her his fortunes. This confuses not only her but his family as well, who have been left relatively nothing. Avery, with some help from the billionaire’s grandsons, sets off to discover why this fortune was left to her. This will be going on my list of best books of the year.

I have had to mull over how to properly put my love and admiration for this book into words. This is without question one of the most brilliant books I have ever read. The strong First Nations protagonist, Daunis, is a powerful model for young women and the honest and raw way that she deals with loss, injustice, love, and trauma is remarkable. The thriller element of this story sucked me in and I could not put it down (I began to resent all the adulting that was required and that took me away from this book). Rarely do I feel like turning back to page 1 of a book once done to read it again, but with this one I did. Remarkable, amazing, magnificent are all words I would use to describe this book. Not only will teens want to read this story, but adults as well. Read this book!!

I loved this series so much and coming to the end of it made me sad. It has been the perfect bit of escapism for this crazy world of ours- I mean, who can't get behind a teen who inherits billions of dollars and has to live in a mega-mansion and live with four hot brothers?! On top of that this is one of the best mysteries I have read in a long time. The way the details intertwine into one amazing ending is phenomenal. When I got this final book in the series, I really hoped @authorjenlynnbarnes would give this story the ending it deserved, and she knocked it out of the park. I look forward to reading this series over and over again, as well as sharing it with my students.

Another fabulous middle-grade. I read this last year to my class of grade fours and LOVED it. I love it for great storyline, the historical teaching, and for the new perspectives it gave both me and my students.

Such a great Canadian story by this brilliant Canadian author. This intricately woven story of a family curse and two young girls trying to break it, to save themselves from certain death, had me hooked from the first page. Set in the 1970s in Newfoundland, this book captivates readers as we get a small glimpse into the Newfoundland life. I'll be checking out her other books for sure.

Sinister, tragic and captivating are words I would use to describe this book. I saw this book listed on a "Best YA audiobook" somewhere and downloaded it, and it ended up being one of those books you stay in the car listening to even though you've arrived at your destination. Based around horrific events at a small town prom, eyes are on one teen who everyone believes committed this heinous act. As the reader learns more about her, we see the impact a lifetime of abuse and bullying has had on her. *mature content warning*
