This is such a powerful and important young adult book. Johnson says at the end that he never had books like this to help him answer the questions he had growing up, nor did he have someone to look to for guidance as he tried to figure out who he was. I hope this books finds its way to all those kids out there wondering and questioning their identities so they know that they are not alone.

I read this book in one sitting and I have had to sit and process everything I learned from this book. This Stonewall Honor Book is a must-have in all secondary libraries because I believe it could be so helpful to so many teens trying to figure out who they are. I also think it’s an essential read for educators and parents. I learned so much from this memoir (in graphic novel format) about the process, thoughts, emotions and trauma so many people have gone through, and are going through, on their journey to self-discovery and self-acceptance. Warning: mature content.

A wonderfully honest graphic novel about the challenges of moving to a new country. Also a great lesson how we can be better at welcoming others to our country, city, school.

Another fantastic LGBTQ+ YA graphic novel memoir that address the intersectionality between race, sexuality and gender. This is another essential read for educators and parents, as well as a must have it all secondary libraries.

This fascinating graphic novel shares the stories of lesser-known women who did big things to change the world throughout history. The retro looking (and feeling) cover caught my attention and I'm so glad I read it. I know so much more about these important women and I'm better for it.
