A short but powerful graphic novel about one girls experience in a residential school.
I have noticed more and more of my kids (students) reading these and they often ask if I have read them, to which I respond "Yes, when they were chapter books". The books in the original series were some of my favourite books growing up (I think I owned the whole series at one point). I have read a few a these and I love that they are as good as the original series. My hope is that they continue making the rest of the series into graphic novels.
When I chose this book I assumed by the cover that is would be for mid-elementary aged kids, so I was surprised to discover it is moreso for middle grade kids. Moth has always been different and her peers have treated her like that as well. One day she discovers a family secrets going back hundreds of years. She is from a family line of witches and she too is a witch. She struggles to figure out if this makes things better or worse for her since her town has a long anti-witch history that weaves into her own family history. As she learns more about her family and its history she must decide whether she wants to fight or embrace this part of her. A fantastic graphic novel about learning who you are and that being different is ok.
A fantastic graphic novel that truly shows good vs bad and how good prevails in dark times. An important reminder these days!
Wow, wow, wow!! This book is a must have in all schools and homes with teens and pre-teens. A stunning graphic novel about depression and anxiety and how this lovely character worked to overcome these feelings.
Barbara has had a big accident and is now rehabilitating at the Arkham Centre for Independence. She quickly discovers that unusual things are happening there and patients are disappearing. She decides to use her hacking skills to solve the mystery of the disappearing patients. A suspense-filled YA graphic novel that teens will enjoy.
I love this new graphic novel! Being part of a swim team takes a lot of work and it builds wonderful, lasting friendships and makes teams strong. The young girls in this story learn the value of these things in this fantastic story.
Trauma impacts each person in its own way. Manuel has experienced a major traumatic incident (gun violence) and is trying to find his way through it. With the help of his friends and his therapist he uses his "anchor" (photography) to help him get through the most difficult moments and start reintegrating back into life. A stunning graphic novel for teens that exudes emotion and connection through the images and text.
Came across this series in the last few weeks, and quite enjoyed this quiet and gentle graphic novel fantasy about the Tea Dragon Society.
