I was totally enthralled with this graphic novel, and I suspect that many of my junior high students will be too. I now want to read the novel as well. Reynolds is a powerful storyteller who deserves all the praise he got for this graphic novel, and the original novel.

Nisrin is the victim of a hate crime and the impact on her is deep and emotional. Incredible illustrations and use of colour in this middle grade graphic novel elevate the story beyond its text. Her anger and fear are both visceral and palpable. An incredible read that will open doors to important conversations.

Another wonderful graphic novel about discovering who you are and what your superpower really is.

I think the power of this fantastic graphic novel is that so many kids will relate to Natalie’s feeling of not being enough. Not cool enough. Not smart enough. Not pretty enough. There are so many ways to not feel good enough, but hopefully Natalie’s journey to discovering that she is wonderful just the way she is will help other kids believe the same about themselves.

A fun western version of Rapunzel in a graphic novel format.

Marjorie is 13 and is dealing with so many hard things- the recent death of her mom, her dad no coping with the death well, running their family Laundromat, and feeling like no one sees her. Wendell is a ghost dealing with his own death and struggling to do so in the afterlife. Their stories intertwine to make a lovely story about loss and grief.

A lively and bright graphic novel about not letting someone take your creativity and imagination away from you.

Dove into this graphic novel series and couldn’t put it down. While I don’t have the Marvel background knowledge to these characters, I enjoyed this graphic novel, as I think many teens will.
