I love Marie Lu’s books and I love that this format of her stories makes her books accessible to more readers.

A short and incredibly powerful graphic novel about race. Harris speaks of his own life and the lessons he learned from his uncle, who was in prison for a long time, about being black and how black people are often treated. Harris speaks honestly about his experiences and lessons, and he brings awareness to the flaws in the ways society often treats black people. Such an important read for both young and old. Middle grades and up.

Not being someone who follows or really understands the game of basketball, I found this book fascinating. The history of Basketball and of the Bishop O'Dowd team and players is intriguing and the author putting himself in the book to show how he was inspired by this team to write this book was a bonus. Highly recommend this graphic novel!

Bittle is starting at Samwell University and has been recruited for their hockey team. He is small, a wonderful baker (pie, anyone?), a blogger with quite a following, and a former figure skating champ. He is worried he won’t fit in, but despite his passions, the team takes to him quickly and he is accepted for who he is. This is a graphic novel that will interest any hockey player or fan and it’s the first in a series.

This is a book I think many will find comfort in. Tyler is in college when her mom passes away from cancer and she is heartbroken. As she wades through her grief she starts to notice the ways people treat her and how this event has changed her family. In a graphic novel format, Tyler explains her loss, shares the stories of her beautiful mom, and gives the reader insight into how people with similar loses may be feeling and what they need. People who are facing the same will likely see similarities to how they’re feeling and what they’re experiencing. This lovely book also gives the reader knowledge and insight on how best to helping others suffering a loss.

So much to learn in this historical fiction book about a family's journey from Vietnam and their new life in the US. Attaching each of their experiences to a family dish they ate during their journey adds an extra level of interest to this wonderful graphic novel.

I really enjoyed New Kid and absolutely LOVED this companion book. So many great lessons and points to ponder about our roles and actions as teachers and role models in these young adults' lives.

A really great graphic novel for younger readers. Princess Diana wishes she had friends her age and one day decides to create her own out of clay. No one is happier when her creation comes to life and she finally has a best friend. Until she starts to discover things may not be as she thinks. Friendship and knowing a true friend are important lessons in this graphic novel.

A fun, competitive and high paced graphic novel series about fencing in a private school. Definitely want to read volume 2 now.
