This guidebook about the they/them pronouns, in the format of a graphic novel, is brilliantly simple, yet so important. The authors explain these pronouns, the importance of identifying the people around us correctly, and how taking the time to learn and use these pronouns shows that we value others for who they are. A must have in all school libraries, classrooms, and homes.
A great middle-school graphic novel about friendship, first crushes, and following your dreams.
This fascinating graphic novel shares the stories of lesser-known women who did big things to change the world throughout history. The retro looking (and feeling) cover caught my attention and I'm so glad I read it. I know so much more about these important women and I'm better for it.
I have seen this mentioned many places and finally checked it out. A really great graphic novel about doing what's right and taking action when you see a need for change. The dedication, "For all the troublemakers and Problem Solvers" says it all for who this book is for.
A wonderfully honest graphic novel about the challenges of moving to a new country. Also a great lesson how we can be better at welcoming others to our country, city, school.
I never went to camp as a kid, by choice, but perhaps if there had been a camp like this when I was growing up I would have. What an amazing camp!
Olive and Willow are headed to camp together and this is Willow’s first time. Willow expects Olive to do everything with her and to choose the same activities as her. When Olive decides to do other things with other campers, Willow gets quite upset. Both girls are hurt and wonder if their friendship will last the summer.
Bina and her friend Austin have a tradition of hanging out together all summer. This summer Bina faces a summer without him as he heads off to camp. She learns quickly how much she depended on Austin for a fun in the summer. Even when she texts him he seems different. Bina makes new friendships and new connections with her family, but misses her friend a lot. A fun graphic novel about summer, friendship, and figuring out who you are.
Thomas King’s amazing short story has now been made into Graphic Novel format. This is the story of a young boy and his mom trying to go visit his sister in Salt Lake City, from the Blackfoot reserve north of the Canadian border at Coutts. When he and his mom try to cross they are stopped because his mom insists they are Blackfoot and will not say that she is Canadian. Unless she declares herself American or Canadian, she is unable to cross into the US or return to Canada. A beautiful story about identity, perseverance and sticking to your beliefs.
Just finished this graphic novel and really enjoyed it. I love historical fiction and this was right up my alley. A graphic novel about a young Jewish girl living in France during WWII and she tells the story through the lense of her camera.
