A wonderful book for upper-elementary-aged kids. Full of adventure and mystery, this great story hooks readers from the beginning. Corinne lives with her father on a small Caribbean island where she has unintentionally awoken the Jumbies in the forest near her town. Now she must fight to keep her island safe and figure out her connection to these creatures. Even better, it’s the first in the series.

Still one of my favourite books of all time. Kids love it. Adults love it. Even better news is the sequel, The One and Only Bob, comes out May 5.

Oh how I love this book! I have read this with multiple groups of kids and they have all loved it too. This is the story of Marin, a 11yr old girl who has lived in foster care since she was 4, who finally has someone who wants to adopt her. She is resistant to this because she wants to find her birth mother because she is certain her mom would want her back. This beautiful story is told through the different lenses of each character and we learn their stories and how they are intertwined. As these characters collide in their stories, so too do the tectonic plates beneath this San Francisco story setting, until they all erupt.

When I chose this book I assumed by the cover that is would be for mid-elementary aged kids, so I was surprised to discover it is moreso for middle grade kids. Moth has always been different and her peers have treated her like that as well. One day she discovers a family secrets going back hundreds of years. She is from a family line of witches and she too is a witch. She struggles to figure out if this makes things better or worse for her since her town has a long anti-witch history that weaves into her own family history. As she learns more about her family and its history she must decide whether she wants to fight or embrace this part of her. A fantastic graphic novel about learning who you are and that being different is ok.

Came across this series in the last few weeks, and quite enjoyed this quiet and gentle graphic novel fantasy about the Tea Dragon Society.

A story about Fairies that's breaks all the rules of typical fairy books. Nix is a very misbehaved fairy and he isnt afraid to get himself in trouble. A fun chapter book for kids

I had high expectations for this sequel and it lived up to all of them. Funny, touching, sad, happy, this book was a joy to read and the perfect sequel to The One and Only Ivan.

Now that we gotten through April, I wanted to talk about this gem of a book. I loved Stacy McAnulty's The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl and really enjoyed this follow-up novel. Eleanor has lived much of her life around her survivalist grandfather and when she reads that Harvard scientist is predicting the end of the world (by asteroid) will be in April, she goes into full-on planning mode to ensure the people she loves most will be ok. This is a beautiful story of friendship and understanding that perhaps all that we hear online isn't true.

This has been on my reading list for a few years now and I finally got to read it this week. What a story! Set in 1956, post WWll, the world is very different- Hitler and Japan won the war and have now split the world. Yael is a Jewish girl who survived the concentration camps only because she was part of a medical experiment that changed her life and now allows her to skin shift. Years after the war, she is part of the resistance, who is trying to overthrow Hitler’s world dominance. She has been given a daring assignment - to join the annual motorcycle race across Europe and Asia, win, and kill Hitler herself. Her skin shifting allows her to take the place of the previous year’s winner, Adele Wolfe. She must try to overcome treachery, danger at every turn and the other racers to win this race. Can she do it?
