Fun, mysterious and romantic are perfect descriptors for this book. A popular girl disappears and leaves clues for the three people she has kissed, to find her. They don't know each other very well but are thrown together to figure out what happened to Shara and learn a few things about themselves.
A wonderful YA novel about self-discovery. While the storyline is fantastic, what I most loved about this book is that message that figuring out who you are isn't easy or clearcut and that we may stumble along the way.
This award winning YA historical fiction novel tells the story of the inner battle a Chinese teen has between following her heart and doing what is expected of her. Set in San Francisco in the 1950s, highschooler Lily starts to get to know fellow student, Kath, and she develops feelings for her. She knows her parents would not approve but her feelings for Kath are real. Will she follow her heart or do what society, and her family, expect of her?
The story of a young boy who knows that he is a girl and the process the family goes through to understand who Jazz really is.
Such a lovely and heartfelt story. Ivy’s family has lost their home in a tornado and as they come to terms with the loss and the necessary rebuild, Ivy is also figuring out who she is. An amazing story about family, friendship, and most importantly, loving yourself.
It’s 1983 and Vanessa Williams has been crowned Miss America. It’s an historical night because she is the first African-American woman to win this title. This night changes young, African-American, Vanessa Martin’s life forever. She now believes that anything is possible. When her school announces they are launching their first pageant she hesitantly decides to join the competition. Filled with hope, this book also shares an honest portrayal of the challenges and heartbreak that young Vanessa faces.
Another fantastic LGBTQ+ YA graphic novel memoir that address the intersectionality between race, sexuality and gender. This is another essential read for educators and parents, as well as a must have it all secondary libraries.
I loved this book! Love, stardom, friendship all wrapped up in a fantastic story.
This book is fabulous!! Dominica is a grade 8 student at Mitchell academy. This state-of-the-art school boasts high levels of security, and the motto Security breeds success, including cameras in all parts of the school. Things sour at the school when videos of students and staff in embarrassing situations (falling, turning a shirt right side out in a dark corner, fly open with shirt poking out to name a few) begin to be posted on the school’s site. Dominica is not ok with this, and using things she learns from a current project on Banksy, gets an idea on how to launch a rebellion against these security measures. Loved this book so much and I have added a copy to my classroom library.
